OvenMediaEngine Enterprise includes OpenH264 (SW) and GPU encoders (NVIDIA, AMD Xilinx) by default. You may scale usage without a channel cap as long as your server capacity allows.
Both encode H.264. OpenH264 is great for real-time and lightweight use, while x264 delivers higher quality at the same bitrate (or the same quality at a lower bitrate) thanks to advanced encoding tools and presets.
We officially support x264 commercial licensing for OvenMediaEngine Enterprise, so you can ship closed-source, enterprise-grade services with improved compression efficiency.
Billing is per channel. One channel means one x264-encoded output video track. For example, if you ingest a media source and encode an ABR stream with x264 producing three output video tracks (1080p, 720p, 480p), that counts as three channels.
Yes. You can mix OpenH264, x264, and GPU encoders (NVIDIA, AMD Xilinx) to meet your workload and quality targets. For example, keep 1080p on the GPU while using x264 for premium profiles.
